Iranian diplomat says gays ruin western families.

The international affairs advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati, stated that homosexuality is the cause of cultural decay in the West.
Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati, senior Iranian diplomat and politician stated that gays are causing cultural decay in the West
Speaking at the Islamic Awakening conference, Dr Velayati, who is also Iran’s former foreign affairs minister, described the situation of Western cultures ‘worrisome’, adding, ‘corruption and decay is spreading all over the West.
'The moral degradation in the West is worsening by the day... Homosexuality is driving Western family foundations into ruins.’
Dr. Velayati, a paediatrician-turned-politician, told his conference audience today (27 September): ‘Instead of putting an end to this decay and moral degradation, the West has chosen to manipulate the basic [foundations] of humanity.
'They are bringing human procreation to a halt through their support and promotion of faggotry. How can one raise adopted kids in a family when both parents are men?’
Dr. Velayati’s declarations were made only a few days following statements by the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has called being gay ‘ugly’, comparing it to stealing, and saying it ‘ceases procreation’.
In the past, the Iranian president who took office in 2005 has denied the existence of any gay people in Iran at all.
‘In Iran, we don't have homosexuals like you do in your country. This does not exist in our country,’ he said in New York, although a spokesman later said this was misinterpreted.
Gorji Marzban chairperson of the Austrian-based Oriental Queer Organization (ORQOA) told Gay Star News: 'Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, the Iranian leadership has tried to segregate the world into western and Islamic countries. This yields different moral and political attitudes. They have condemned humanism, liberalism and Individualism. LGBT-rights are categorized as such and therefore are not acknowledged by Islamic clerics, not only in Iran but also in many other Muslim countries. However in Iran this is integrated into state doctrine.
'As a result, we are confronted with a stream of LGBT refugees from Iran, who have suffered violence, rape and even attempts to kill them by their own Muslim families.
'Mr Velayati should reconsider his statements and find a more humane way to treat LGBT individuals based on the islamic codex, which see humans as equal and loved by Allah.'
Omar Kuddus, a GSN contributor and chair of the UK based charity GayAsylumUK commented on the news: 'how can a government that hangs, prosecutes and oppresses its citizens under unfounded guises and trumpet up charges be credible and justify the wests stand on equality and persecution?
'All statistics available shows that the move towards equality if anything is improving family values and the concept of and values.
'Perhaps Dr. Velayati has an insight that the rest of society is unaware of.'
Human Rights Watch used its 2011 report to document the extreme difficulties the LGBT community in Iran faces including harrasment, presecution and even murder by family members being a common reality.
Homosexuality is a crime punishable by imprisonment, corporal punishment and even execution under Iran’s strict Shari’a laws.
