A video of lesbian British presenter Clare Balding interviewing the father of South African champion Chad Le Clos has gone viral with over 70,000 hits in two days.
The footage shows Balding speaking with an emotional Bert Le Clos overcome with happiness because of his ‘beautiful boy’s’ win.
Le Clos became a swimming sensation when he beat one of the best Olympic athletes of all time, the American Michael Phelps, by a few hundredths of a second in the 200m butterfly on Tuesday (31 July).
After Le Clos won, the proud parent made his way to the BBC studio where he was interviewed by the broadcaster and former jockey.
When Balding asked him when his son fully committed to swimming, and how he got so good, Le Clos said: ‘He’s unbelievable. He’s committed like you wouldn’t believe. He’s the most down-to-earth, beautiful boy you’ll ever meet in your life. Look at him!’
Balding’s empathetic, intelligent, factual style has won her fans all over the globe, with newspapers and websites in the US, India and South Africa praising her.
